Traditional Moroccan home décor speaks of sensuality and elegance, and it can be incorporated successfully into almost any room of your home. The key to successfully decorating in this style is to incorporate the basic style elements of this type of décor. For example, regardless of the room you are decorating, the foundation to any successful décor style is the color palette. Moroccan colors are warm, yet still vibrant, and they most often include shades of silver, yellow, gold, greens, and blues, with deep reds and purples being used for accent colors.

There are several types of materials that are often featured prominently in Moroccan home décor, including wool, linen, velvet, and silk brocade. Many of these materials often feature rich and intricate embroidery or beading. The lighter materials may be used for bedding, window treatments, and throw pillows, while the heavier materials, such as canvas and wool, can be reserved for flooring, like rugs, or upholstery for furniture.

Ideally, you should select one piece of furniture for the room features Moroccan flair. Traditional Moroccan furniture is often crafted from Thuja tree wood, which features a distinct look and color. Furthermore, most authentic Moroccan furniture is often upholstered in goat, cow, or camel leather. The furniture pieces that you choose should be overstuffed to create an inviting atmosphere. It can beneficial to choose furniture pieces in neutral colors, so they can be used in multiple different types of home décor.

Of course, the accessories that you choose should be Moroccan in their heritage. For example, look for Moroccan pottery pieces in contrasting colors, such as black and white or green and white, to create an interesting visual aesthetic. Lighting fixtures constructed from wrought iron or cast iron can be used to create a visual focal point within a room that is decorated with a Moroccan theme. Stained glass lampshades in traditional Moroccan colors can also be used to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

As a final touch, consider adding exotic plants throughout the room you are decorating. This allows you to bring an element of the outdoors inside. If you would like to import exotic plants directly from Morocco, look for potted trees, like litchi, umbrella pines, or the aforementioned Thuja tree. If you find it too expensive to import these plants, you can alternately look for potted lemon, orange, or mango trees.
