Living Room | Contemporary Living Room Furniture

In case you can’t tell – we love Asian inspired home decor! From Asian inspired bedding to Asian inspired bathrooms – we can’t get enough of the Asian interior design motif! When doing this design style, it’s common to only apply it to one room of your home, with the bedrooms and bathrooms being the most popular. However we also like Asian inspired dining rooms as well! If you are going to do an Asian inspired dining room you have to decide a few things, first – are you going to go full out traditional with floor seating, or will you only do Asian accent pieces and furniture?

How to Create Your Own Asian-Inspired Dining Room

You can create your own Asian-inspired dining room in an instant. This can be done through your dining room sets, your choice of dining room furniture, or your kitchen tables. It can even be as subtle as your choice of room accessories and little items here and there. If you don’t know where to start, here are some tips to clue you in or to give you that boost of inspiration:

The best way to make your room Asian-inspired is through your choice of decorative pieces. The most important accessories to go Asian with are your choices of tableware, tablecloths or serving dishes. In terms of furniture pieces, you could try a rice paper folding screen or installing Shoji doors. A great accessory would be a series of potted Asian plants. Asian figurines also do a great job of sprucing up your dining room.

Another important element to Asian-ize is your flooring. However, replacing your entire floor can be far too expensive, you can compensate for this by adding Asian-inspired rugs. However, if you have the budget for it, you can go for bamboo flooring or dark hardwood flooring.

Colors are also very important when it comes to Asians, and so the colors of your walls or wallpaper can do a lot to give off that funky and classic Asian vibe. Deep reds are classic Asian hues. You can complement this with more subdued or neutral tones or a light-colored strip of wallpaper.

Decorate and jazz up your windows with silk drapes or roll-up bamboo shades for that distinctly Asian feel.

An easy way to go Asian with your room is to purchase Asian-inspired paintings and hang them up. This is a really easy thing to do and can apply to your bedroom, bathroom, dining room, or living room – basically anywhere in the house.

Asian-inspired lighting is also a good investment, and can include anything and everything from paper shades, chandeliers, or Asian-looking lamps.

In summary, getting your room to give off that fabulous Asian feel doesn’t necessarily require a drastic overhaul. This is a project that you can do slowly and simply. By adding little pieces here and there initially and moving on to more major changes in décor such as your choice of furniture pieces and paintings, you won’t have to shell out a huge amount of money initially. You can slowly prepare for the investment and at the same time get the ball rolling by starting small. The only thing to remember is to keep your patterns and accessories consistent with everything else, so that your house doesn’t look like a museum or a room filled with unnecessary clutter.
