Tips on Incorporating The Different Elements of Rustic Decor in Your Home

Most individuals believe that decorating their home in a rustic style of décor simply involves choosing distressed or weather worn wooden furniture or accessories; however, there are many elements that can be incorporated into a rustic home décor style to make it truly come alive. The spirit behind rustic home décor actually goes much deeper than surfaces and textures. The goal of the rustic décor is to create and environment in which you can relax and reminisce.

What is Rustic Decor?

Many styles of rustic home décor are inspired by elements of nature. When it comes to choosing a color palette for your room, look for shades of grey that are reminiscent of the stones you would find outdoors, or you can find inspiration in the various hues seen in a sunset. These classic colors will withstand the test of time much better than the latest designer shades of color, and their subtly will be able to age gracefully with the various rooms of your home.

As you are choosing the various pieces of furniture and accessories that you will use for the rooms you plan to decorate in a rustic inspired décor, it is important to remember that a minimalist style will work the best. The amounts of accessories and clutter within a room should be kept to a minimum.  Often times, it can be tempting to overwhelm a room with pre-manufactured trinkets or knick knacks that are often seen in modern, rustic home décor, but these items should be avoided when possible.

One of the goals of rustic home décor is to bring a feeling of the outdoors inside. For example, the furniture, upholstery, and fabrics used in rustic décor should consist of simple linens, natural woods, and rustic leathers. As an example, you might wish to pair a white washed wooden floor with a cowhide area rug. When possible, consider doing away altogether with window treatments to allow natural light into a space. It also introduces picturesque views that can enhance the feelings of bringing the outdoors in.

Finally, when you are decorating in a rustic  décor style, look for materials that are eco-friendly. Even though rustic home décor is inspired by the elements of nature, decorators often do not consider its impact on the environment. When it is possible, try to leave the natural elements in a room, like a stone fireplace or aged wooden flooring, alone. Its stark beauty and appeal is undeniable, and it does not need any further enhancement.
