Utilizing the Color Red in  Your Asian Inspired Home Decor

Red is a color that is featured prominently in numerous different types of home décor; however, it is most prominent in Asian inspired décor. In Asian culture, the color red is believed to be representative of good luck.  The color red can be compared with other bold colors or accessories, or you may choose to pair it with a palette of neutral shades, as an accent color, to allow it to “pop” more within a room. With Asian decor, there are just so many options and styles!

There are numerous shades of red that you will be able to choose from. Different shades of red have a variety of different undertones, from blue to yellow to orange. “Blue” shades of red, like burgundy and maroon, are considered the most traditional. On the other hand, berry shades of red are considered more feminine. The classic shades of red that are featured in Oriental décor tend to have a slight yellow or gold tint to them.

In Asian and Oriental inspired décor, the color red is often paired with accent colors of yellow and green. Incorporating the color red into your home décor does not automatically mean that you have to paint all four walls of a room fire engine red. Instead, you can begin by painting a single accent wall in your favorite shade of red. Red accessories may be featured throughout the room that play up the dramatic style of this color.

When you are choosing red accessories for an Asian inspired room, look for accessories that feature animal motifs or mythological creatures, like dragons. Porcelain jars, oversized vases, and fish pots are common accessories that are seen in Asian and Oriental inspired décor, and most of these items will feature red coloring, with one of the most popular color schemes being red and gold. Other authentic items you will be able to choose from include wall murals, plaques, and folding screens.

The color red is a classic color that is essentially timeless. When used correctly within a space, it can convey many different moods and ambiances. However, when you are decorating a room with red in an Oriental inspired theme, it is important to ensure that each element does not match too perfectly, because just a small amount of this bold color choice can go a long way within a space.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with asian decor, if the color red doesn’t appeal blacks and golds can also be used.
